LASER FUSION
Adaptive optics (AO) is critically important for laser inertial confinement fusion (ICF) because it ensures that the laser beams driving the implosion have the required precision, symmetry, and beam quality. Even small optical distortions can prevent a fusion target from compressing uniformly, drastically reducing fusion yield.
