Telescope Adaptive Optics for Amateur Astronomers – CIAO VIS

CIAO VIS is a compact adaptive optics (AO) add-on designed to significantly improve ground-based telescope resolution. By correcting static aberrations (misalignment, thermal/gravity effects) and reducing atmospheric turbulence, CIAO VIS delivers sharper images and higher performance for advanced astronomy applications.
Please note that CIAO VIS price is Starting 80,000 Euros & has a 3 months lead time.

Why Adaptive Optics for Amateur Telescopes?

Improve Telescope Resolution with Adaptive Optics

Adaptive optics is a proven technology used in professional astronomy to correct wavefront distortions and recover fine details. CIAO VIS brings this capability to advanced amateur astronomers and private observatories through an easy-to-integrate system placed directly in the telescope optical path.

Typical benefits include:

  • Sharper planetary and solar imaging

  • Improved stability and fine pointing

  • Increased coupling efficiency into a single-mode fiber for spectroscopy/interferometry

How CIAO VIS Integrates ?

A Compact Adaptive Optics Add-on for Telescopes

CIAO VIS connects directly to the telescope eyepiece interface and is inserted between the telescope focal plane and the user plane (camera sensor or fiber holder), without modifying the optical path. Setup is supported by embedded alignment tools and an internal calibration source.

Key integration advantages:

  • Fast setup with tip-tilt alignment tools

  • Internal source for auto-calibration and system checks

  • One-click AO loop closing to activate correction

Compatibility

Telescope Compatibility Requirements

To ensure performance and feasibility, CIAO VIS is designed for the following telescope configurations:

  • Telescope diameter: 200 mm to 1 m

  • Input focal ratio: f/9 to f/12 (customization possible outside this range)

  • Mechanical interface: T2 (M42 x 0.75 mm)

  • Spectral range: 400–1100 nm

  • Max closed loop frequency: up to ~1 kHz

  • Operating environment: Windows 10 / Windows 11 (WaveSky server)

If your configuration falls outside these requirements, a custom study may be required.
